Types of Title I Schools: Title I Programs are federally funded programs for the educationally disadvantaged. There are two main types of Title I programs in U.S. schools today, Targeted Assisted and Schoolwide Programs. A school's free/reduced lunch percentage determines weather they are Targeted Assisted or Schoolwide.
York Elementary School operates as a Schoolwide Program. This basically means that our poverty percentage has reached a point that our whole building is at risk of failing. Essentially, every student at Y.E.S. is considered a Title I student. At York Elementary, we take pride in our reading program and the progress that our students make. Title I reading specialists and classroom teachers work diligently to monitor and track the reading progress of all students.
Important Elements of any Schoolwide Program:
* Parent/School Compact * Parent Involvement Policy
* Highly Qualified Staff * Transition Planning
* Adherence to standards * Budget
* Data analysis * Teacher Mentoring
* High Quality On-Going Professional Development
